Loses to Greater Latrobe 4 to 3
Congratulations to the Junior Varsity team
for finishing in 1st Place of Section 2 with
a record of 14-3-1. They ended up tied with Upper St.
Clair (USC) for 4th overall. On March 17th,
the JV team played USC in the first round of the Tier I
Tournament. Moon defeated USC 7 to 1. Moon played
Greater Latrobe in Round 2 and after jumping out to a 3
to 0 lead, lost the game in the 3rd period by
giving up 4 unanswered goals. Regardless, the JV team
had an excellent season. Congratulations to the team
and Coaches Kubatka, Burdzy and Warn!

Defeats USC in 1st Round of Tier I
Tournament!

JV entered the 1st round of the Tier I
Tournament tied for 4th with Upper St Clair.
These two teams met in the preseason, where USC defeated
our Tigers, and then fought to a 2 to 2 tie in the
regular season. Moon started the scoring midway through
the first period and USC tied the game about three
minutes into the second; however, 6 seconds later Moon
took over and never looked back. This was a big team
effort with 10 different Moon players registering
points. Moon stats: Brandon Smitsky (1 goal, 3
assists), Tom McAuliffe (1 goal, 2 assists), Brian
Schroeder (2 goals), Nigel Crighton (1 goal, 1 assist),
Chad Trice (1 goal, 1 assist), Jake Rosnack (2 assists),
AJ Coleman (2 assists), Brandon Steinert (1 goal), Vince
Tarquinio (1 assist) and Andrew Brown (1 assist). Tyler
Hunter stopped 27 of 28 shots and made some great saves
late in the game. Keep it going guys!

Hunter recorded his eleventh win, stopping 23 of 24

his 4th shut-out and tenth win.

Shuts Out Blackhawk 4 to 0!
For
the second time in a week, Moon shuts out South
Fayette. Points recorded for: Andrew Brown (1 goal, 1
assist), Nigel Crighton (1 goal, 1 assist), Brandon
Steinert (1 goal, 1 assist), Brandon Buck (1 goal), Tom
McAuliffe (1 assist), AJ Coleman (1 assist). Moon
outshot Blackhawk 31 to 6. Tyler Hunter recorded his 3rd
shut-out and ninth win.

Beats Blackhawk 3 to 0!
Moon
JV returned to its winning ways by defeating Blackhawk
at Brady’s Run 3 to 0. After a scoreless first period,
AJ Coleman started off the scoring in the second on an
unassisted goal. Moon added to their lead in the
closing seconds of the second when Chad Trice recorded a
power play goal. Assists were credited to Nigel
Crighton and Andrew Brown. Moon finished the scoring in
the third when Tom McAuliffe made a nice backhanded pass
to Brandon Buck, who was streaking to the net. Brandon
knocked a nice one timer between the pads of the
Blackhawk goalie. Nigel got the second assist on the
play. Moon outshot Blackhawk 33 to 14 in the game.
Goalie Tyler Hunter recorded his second shutout and his
eighth win of the season.

Loses To Peters Twp 5 to 3!
Moon
JV recorded its third loss of the 2008 season when they
traveled to Southpointe to take on Peters Twp. Peters
started the scoring about a minute into the first
period; however, Moon rebounded on the next face-off.
Chad Trice won the faceoff, and he and Brandon Smitsky
broke toward the goal. After exchanging passes, Chad
Trice scored the tying goal. Moon gave up their second
goal about three minutes later to end the scoring in the
first 2 to 1. In the second, Moon once again tied the
score on the power play off a wrap around by Nigel
Crighton. Andrew Brown got the assist. Peters then got
two more goals in the period and one more in the third
to take the lead 5 to 2. With about 2 minutes left in
the game, Moon scored their third goal when Chad Trice
broke toward the net and Brandon Smitsky hit him with a
nice pass for the tip in. Moon outshot Peters 30 to 16
in the game.

assist), Andrew Brown (2 goals, 1 assist), Brandon
Smitsky (1 goal), Jon Kostial (2 assists), and Brandon
Steinert (1 assist). Moon outshot South Fayette 25 to
12, and goalie Tyler Hunter gets the win after stopping
11 shots.

assist), and Jon Kostial (1 assist). Goalie Zach Belgie
in his second start of the season recorded a shutout by
stopping 8 shots.

Loses Montour Rematch 4 to 1!
Moon
JV suffered their first loss of 2008 when they faced
Montour in a rematch to a previous Moon win. Moon came
out flat and Montour jumped out to a 3 to 0 lead in the
first. After adding a fourth goal in the second, Moon
remained shut out until about nine minutes left in the
game when Chad Trice scored off a pass from Brandon
Smitsky. Moon was outshot 30 to 19 in the game.

Defeats Wheeling Park 8 to 1!
Moon
JV traveled to Wheeling and easily defeated Wheeling
Park 8 to 1. Moon played a solid team game, with 9
different players getting on the scoresheet. Moon
started the game by going up 4 to 0 through the first 19
minutes of the game. Moon goals were scored by Jake
Rosnack, who was playing his first game since breaking
his collar bone, Nigel Crighton, Brandon Buck and Chad
Trice. Wheeling Park got on the board with five minutes
to go in the second, but this was again followed up with
4 more unanswered goals by Moon. These goals were
scored by Jon Kostial, Brandon Smitsky, AJ Coleman (a
shorthanded goal) and Jake Rosnack (his second of the
game). Providing the assists for the night were Nigel
Crighton (3), Marco Bartoletta (2), Chad Trice (2), and
the 3 B’s (Brandon Buck, Brandon Steinert and Brandon
Smitsky). Tyler Hunter played solid between the pipes
stopping 9 of 10 shots and getting his 6th
win of the season.

Defeats Wheeling Central Catholic 9 to 1!
In
its second lopsided win in a row, Moon JV defeated
Wheeling Central Catholic 9 to 1. After one period,
Moon was ahead 1 to 0 on an unassisted shorthanded goal
by AJ Coleman. Moon got two more goals in the second,
with Chad Trice getting a power play goal with assists
by Andrew Brown and Marco Bartoletta, and an unassisted
goal by Nigel Crighton. In the third Moon added six
more unanswered goals with two more from AJ, two from
Andrew Brown, one more from Nigel, and one from Vince
Tarquinio. Wheeling got one past goaltender Zach Belgie
with 43 seconds left to play to spoil the shut-out.
However, Zach played well in his first JV start stopping
8 of 9 shots.

Defeats Char Valley 13 to 4!

JV bounces back from a loss and a tie in the past two
games to defeat Chartiers Valley 13 to 4. This
offensive explosion was the result of 10 different
players getting on the scoresheet, with points coming
from Andrew Brown (4 goals, 3 assists), Nigel Crighton
(3 goals, 3 assists), Chad Trice (2 goals, 4 assists),
Tom McAuliffe (1 goal, 3 assists), Brandon Smitsky (1
goal, 1 assist), AJ Coleman (1 goal, 1 assist), Brandon
Buck (2 assists), Josh Bioni (2 assists), Marco
Bartoletta (1 assist) and Jonathan Kostial (1 assist).
Goalie Tyler Hunter stopped 12 of 16 shots.

Battles Upper St. Clair to a 2 to 2 Tie!
Moon
JV battled back from a weak performance last week
against Baldwin to tie a strong Upper St. Clair team.
USC started the scoring late in the first period. In
the second, Moon tied the game at one off a goal by
Andrew Brown with assists by Marco Bartoletta and
Brandon Smitsky. However, less than a minute later USC
once again took the lead. In the third, Moon once again
tied the game on a tip in by Nigel Crighton with assists
from Brandon Steinert and Andrew Brown. Goalie Tyler
HUntrer stopped 16 of 18 shots.

Suffers First Loss to Baldwin 3 to 0
Moon
Beats Up Morgantown 8 to 3!
For
the fourth straight time this season, Moon’s JV team
winds up on top with an impressive 8 to 2 victory over
Morgantown. Moon started off the scoring in the first
when Andrew Brown made a nice cross ice pass to Brandon
Buck for the easy tap in on the backside. Andrew
followed that up with an unassisted goal of his own just
33 seconds later. Andrew finished the game with 4 goals
and an assist. His other three goals were off assists
by Nigel Crighton, Brian Schroeder and Brandon Smitsky.
Chad Trice also lit the lamp off an assist by Jon
Kostial. Nigel had two goals. One assisted by Vince
Tarquinio and one on a penalty shot to end the scoring.
Goalie Tyler Hunter stopped 13 of the 15 shots he
faced.

4 to 3 Over Montour!
The
JV team remains undefeated by raking up its third
straight victory of the season. Goalie Tyler Hunter
stops 21 of 24 shots. With a short bench due to
injuries and illnesses, Moon outlasted a tough Montour
team. Moon opened the scoring when Brandon Steinert
knocked in a puck loose in the crease (McAuliffe on the
assist). With the score ties, Moon once again took the
lead on a slapper from the point by Marco Bartoletta
(Trice and Smitsky on the assists). Next, Chad Trice
wristed one in from the slot (Tarquinio on the Assist).
Then with the game once again tied, Andrew Brown slapped
one in from the point (Crighton on the assist).

JV Beats North Hills 3 to 0!
The
JV team gets its second win of the season. Goalie Tyler
Hunter records his first shut-out of the season stopping
all 12 shots he faced. Moon scorers included: AJ
Coleman (1 goal, 1 assist), Jonathan Kostial (1 goal, 1
assist), Chad Trice (1 goal) and Josh Bioni (1 assist).

JV Beats Canon Mac in Opener!
The
JV team opens the 2007-2008 Season with a 6 to 2 victory
over Canon McMillian. After giving up a quick goal,
Moon took the lead with 5 unanswered goals. After
giving up a late 2nd CM score Moon bounced
back with its 3rd powerplay goal with 18
seconds remaining in the game. Moon scorers included:
